IS Gian Mamuyac excused from coach Yeng Guiao’s infamous ‘tough love’ now that he’s outside of the Rain or Shine fence?
It depends, according to Guiao.
“Mahal namin si Mamu, pero kapag nasa ibang team ka na, ibang usapan na yun,” said a smiling Guiao when asked if the former Rain or Shine team captain will hear some expletives from him when the Elasto Painters meet the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Top meets bottom in Group B on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo as the two sides meet for the first time since the trade of Mamuyac from Rain or Shine to Phoenix was consummated last week.
While emotions are expected to be high during the 7:30 p.m. game, Guiao sees it as an ordinary game especially with the Elasto Painters raring to barge into the win column after two losses.
“We’ll just treat it as an ordinary game,” said the Rain or Shine coach as he tempered any expectations of any drama in the first of their two meetings in the eliminations.
But he did let out on one major request made by Rain or Shine’s most veteran player.
“Nagre-request lang si Beau (Belga) na kahit three minutes daw ipasok siya kasabay ni Mamu,” said Guiao, smiling once again.
“Siya (Belga) na raw ang bahala.”
Jokes aside, Guiao said the entire Rain or Shine franchise wishes its former player well as he takes on a new journey in his PBA career.
“Gusto namin maging masaya siya doon (Phoenix) at maging masaya kami sa nilalaro namin,” Guiao added.
