Guiao urges review of Game 5 officiating, says 'bad calls' hindered NLEX momentum

    Mar 18, 2018

ANTIPOLO CITY – NLEX coach Yeng Guiao plans to talk to PBA officials regarding the matter of officiating, which he believed cost the Road Warriors Game Five of the Philippine Cup semifinals on Sunday night.

Guiao said a review on several bad calls against the Road Warriors should be made since these hampered the team from taking off in the payoff period of the tightly-fought match at the Ynares Center here.

Until the Hotshots turned things around with a huge fourth quarter run, the Road Warriors were very much in the game, 58-59, at the end of the third period.

Magnolia went on to post an 87-78 victory for a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

“Pagdating ng fourth quarter hindi kami makabuwelo, sobrang dami ng bad calls. Yun ang pumatay sa amin,” admitted Guiao in a calm and collected manner.

“We will talk to the commissioner and the technical committee. I think kailangan i-review nila yung mga lahat ng masamang tawag because that cost us the game,” he added. “Kailangang balikan kasi napaka-importante ng Game Six or kung magka-Game Seven ayaw nating ang result ng laro ay ma-decide ng bad calls.”

Guiao lauded the Road Warriors despite playing without key player Kevin Alas, who hurt his right knee as early as the first quarter and never returned.

“I did not get mad at them. Kita ninyo naman maaga kami lumabas (sa dugout) today,  because I didn’t feel that the  loss was their fault,” said Guiao. “Dikdikan naman e, kahit wala si Kevin. We put up a good fight, all the way to the fourth quarter.”

Unfortunately, the calls began to get into the way of the Road Warriors.

“Pero mahirap ngang makabuwelo nga kung may may bad calls going against us. Psychologically, mabigat na imanage yung frustration doon sa mga nangyari."
