YENG Guiao refuses to pin the blame solely on import Alex McLean after Rain or Shine suffered back-to-back losses in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Saturday night following a 91-74 setback at the hands of San Mig Super Coffee.

The 16-point blowout pulled down the Elasto Painters at eighth spot in the short elimination round tournament.

    They Said It!

“I don't want the import to be the center of the blame because he's not really the sole person responsible for the losses." Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao

"We can accept the loss, but one important thing is we learn from the losses. I don't want the import to be the center of the blame because he's not really the sole person responsible for the losses," Guiao said.

"We have to take responsibility, all of us."

McLean led the Elasto Painters with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but was limited to just 29 minutes of play after Guiao opted to bench him the entire fourth quarter.

The Mixers led by as many as 27 points during the same stretch.

The fiery Rain or Shine coach explained benching McLean in the last period was the logical thing to do since everyone in the team played horrendously, particularly in the second half.

"Actually there was very little hope at that point (start of the fourth quarter). It was not only McLean, but yung locals din eh," he said.

"Masama na din yung offense namin. Defensively, we're also lacking in effort so I just felt that we just needed to think about our situation," added Guiao, whose team dropped to a 1-3 mark.

Guiao said he'll be talking with the coaching staff and management to discuss the fate of McLean since the team hasn’t really prepared a short list of imports who could possibly replace the Elasto Painters’ current reinforcement.

"We'll have practice on Sunday and we'll talk to the coaching staff and management. I don't want to make an assessment by myself," he said.

"Tatanungin ko lang sila regarding our situation, pati na rin yung sa import."

Should management decide to let go of McLean, Guiao said the team will have to find a quick replacement in time for its game on Wednesday against Meralco.
