THE feeling remains very much mutual between Rain or Shine and coach Yeng Guiao.
Team management finally began negotiating for a new contract with the multi-titled mentor, and it’s just a matter of time - even days – before Guiao reaches a new agreement with the franchise he has worked with for the last five years.
Talks between the two parties somehow eased the concerns of Guiao about not being signed for another tour of duty as no words or feelers have reportedly been sent to him about a new deal.
Guiao’s current contract with the Elasto Painters runs out at the end of the month.
“We already talked,” said the multi-titled mentor when pressed to comment if any offers already came his way. “So nag-umpisa pa lang. Siguro details lang ang pag-uusapan.”
Raymund Yu, who co-owns the team with long-time partner Terry Que, confirmed details of the contract had been discussed, but refused to go into specifics.
“Yes there is, but I’d rather not divulge it,” replied Yu to SPIN.ph regarding the matter.
The looming agreement between the two couldn’t have come at a perfect time as Rain or Shine’s season is on the brink in the ongoing PBA Governors Cup. The Elasto Painters (4-6) are in a must-win situation against the Star Hotshots in their final assignment in the eliminations in the hope of earning at least a playoff for the last quarterfinals berth.
Both Guiao and management also believed a deal will be made the soonest possible time.
“I don’t think it’s going to get to September 30 before we can finalize,” the 57-year-old coach said. “Siguro in the next few days.”
“Madali namang kausap si coach (Yeng),” Yu added for his part.
All's well that ends well for both sides afterall.
