RAIN or Shine is eager to make up for its recent losses and hope to avoid the same mistakes as the Painters take on the suddenly surging GlobalPort Batang Pier in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Guiao explained that the team’s blown chances against San Miguel Beer and Talk ’N Text should push them to do better and get back on track in their bid to grab and automatic semifinal seat.
They are coming off a win over Barako Bull, but Guiao feels they should be in a better spot than joint fifth at this point in the tournament. The Batang Pier and Elasto Painters are tied with idle Talk ’N Text at 3-2.
“Gusto naming bumalik sa contention. Marami kaming opportunities na nawala, so this is one way of making up for the lost opportunities,” Guiao said
Gametime is at 4:15 p.m.
Guiao said GlobalPort’s rookie guard Stanley Pringle isn’t the only guy they need to watch, as veteran playmaker Alex Cabagnot, Ronjay Buenafe and sophomore combo guard Terrence Romeo are among the major concerns.
Cabagnot is posting a team-best 16.2 points, with 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in more than 33 minutes of play.
The 6-foot-2 Buenafe, meanwhile, averaged 18 points and four three-point conversions in the team’s back-to-back victories that earned him his first Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the week citation.
GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio noted that they have moved to the top half of the leaderboard mainly due to their commitment to play defense.

“We won because of our defense. Eh kaya kami nanalo, ang target kasi namin 80 points or below lang ang kalaban,” he said.
“Nandito na yung right personnel, yung mga players kaya siguro, wala naman kaming pupuntahan kundi pataas eh,” he said.
“Nothing to lose na tayo dito, lahat all-out na.”
