RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao was quick to shoot down trade rumors involving his squad and Barangay Ginebra.

Recently, SPIN.ph has been receiving messages from netizens asking if there is any truth to posts on social media about a trade that will supposedly send Ginebra's Sonny Estil to Rain or Shine for Gian Mamuyac and Andrei Caracut.

So we asked Guiao, who was incredulous upon hearing about the rumor, saying such a trade would not be fair and would only put his team at a clear disadvantage.

“Sobra naman 'yun. Hindi kaya sobrang lugi naman kami dun? Hindi naman ganun ang essence ng trade,” Guiao said in a phone conversation with SPIN.ph.

The outspoken mentor revealed that while there have been inquiries from various teams, there are currently no active talks on a trade involving Mamuyac or Caracut, prompting the Elasto Painters to exercise their ‘auto-extend’ option on the duo's contracts.

“Walang exploratory talks, wala kaming kausap and there are not even overtures from Ginebra regarding the two,” he clarified.

However, Guiao hinted that if Ginebra is truly serious about acquiring either Mamuyac or Caracut, they need to offer a much better package.

He noted that Rain or Shine is very open to exploring offers if any talks involves future draft picks, specifically pointing to the rights to the Terrafirma Dyip's first-round pick in the upcoming January rookie draft which Ginebra owns.

“Kung magagawan nila ng paraan yun, okay yun,” said Guiao, adding the news that Mike Phillips will likely skip the PBA draft in favor of the Japan B.League has significantly eroded the overall value of the incoming draft.

For now, Guiao emphasized that the team will continue to play both Caracut and Mamuyac until a fair deal comes along. Or until the two sign a renewal.

“Sa ngayon, we’re not in a rush. There is no urgency for us to trade the two because the ‘auto-extend’ [rule] gave us additional 6 months in our contracts with them,” he explained.

“So, that means we have another half year to utilize them and at the same time re-evaluate (their stay with us) and explore [options],” Guiao added.
