YENG Guiao will still push through with his plan to run for a seat in Congress despite his double-duty as Team Pilipinas and NLEX coach.

Guiao bared he will be filing his certificate of candidacy next week where he will run as congressman of the first district of Pampanga.

This despite a hectic schedule in which Guiao is expected to remain as head coach of Team Pilipinas in the next window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup later this year.

“Tuloy pa rin ang plano,” said Guiao, referring to his plans to run again for Congress in the 2019 polls.

Formerly a board member and vice governor of Pampanga, Guiao held the congressional seat in 2013, but lost in his bid for re-elections on 2016.

Previously, Guiao had concerns on whether he can juggle his campaigning for the 2019 elections after he was appointed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to be the head coach of Gilas Pilipinas in place of Chot Reyes.

But it appears that the concerns have been ironed out already.

Guiao is also expected to remain as the head coach of the national team in the next window to occur on November 30 and December 3 where the team will play Kazakhstan and Iran respectively.

“Wala pa naman silang formal announcement but we already had an understanding. November 30 naman ‘yung game against Kazakhstan. Before November 30, we will wait for the formal announcement of the SBP. Wala akong alam na mag-iiba and as per my plan, I will still file my certificate of candidacy for Congress next week,” said Guiao.
