ANTIPOLO CITY – A call or even a visit to the PBA Commissioner’s Office seems to be forthcoming for NLEX coach Yeng Guiao.

The veteran mentor rued the officiating in the endgame of the Road Warriors’ heartbreaking 97-98 loss to Rain or Shine on Wednesday night, saying the referees couldn’t call it right when the outcome of the heated match at the Ynares Center here was on the line.

Guiao cited three crucial miscalls which ‘were obvious and cost us the game.’

“It’s another one of those games where the refs robbed you of a victory,” said Guiao, who was actually more disappointed rather than furious with the way officiating went.

“We’ll have to check with the commissioner on what they think about these calls.”

Guiao’s bone of contention was the clear goaltending call that was not made on Gabe Norwood early in the fourth, the foul called on new NLEX import Arnett Moultrie against Reginald Johnson that led to the marginal free throw, and a foul by Chris Tiu on Juami Tiongson that the referees refused to call in the dying seconds.

“So (those are) three calls that I think killed us,” the NLEX coach pointed out.

The Road Warriors remain winless in two games so far in the tournament, with a game against Meralco looming next this Friday.

Nonetheless, Guiao was pleased that his team had a chance to pull off the win in the end. And he was pleased too, with how Moultrie played in his league debut despite having to adjust to the warm weather.

“It’s going to take him a little bit of getting used to the local style of play. But tingin ko naman maganda nang debut for him,” he said of the former NBA player, who came through with 24 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, and five turnovers in 35 minutes of play.

“He should be getting better every game once he gets to use to it.”
