RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao admitted flashing a dirty finger during the E-Painters’ 84-97 loss to Barangay Ginebra on Sunday out of frustration over the way the referees officiated the game.

“Masyadong manipis yung tawag,” Guiao said on Tuesday, a day after the PBA told Spin.ph the coach will be summoned after he was caught on camera making the dirty finger sign during the game.

Guiao specifically pointed to one play early in the fourth quarter when Rain or Shine rookie Jeric Teng was called for a foul on Ginebra's Jayjay Helterbrand which Guiao insisted shouldn't have been called at all.

    They Said It!

“It’s not the first time I did it. 'Di na naman bago 'yun eh. Ang hirap lang kasi sa (referees), magreklamo ka, ikaw pa rin ang mali.” - Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao

“A lot of them (fouls called against Rain or Shine), they (Gin Kings) were initiating the contact," he said. "Ang usapan kasi diyan, you lose the right when you initiate the contact.”

Asked about the obscene gesture, Guiao said it wasn’t the first time he did it during a game.

“It’s not the first time I did it (dirty finger sign). Di na naman bago 'yun eh," said Guiao, adding he considers complaining to the referees an exercise in futility.

"Ang hirap lang kasi sa kanila (referees), magreklamo ka, ikaw pa rin ang mali,” he said.

In the past, Guiao said he would visit the Commissioner’s Office to bring video tapes of their games and point out some officiating lapses, in the hope that it would be addressed by league officials.

But that, too, has become a pointless exercise, Guiao said.

“Dati, I used to bring videos (of the previous game). Pero tumigil na rin akong pumunta kasi wala rin,” said Guiao, who during his long, multi-titled career has racked up thousands in fines for ejections, technical fouls, and his comments on officiating.

Looking at the game statistics alone, Guiao pointed out that Ginebra was sent to the free throw line for a total of 38 attempts compared to the 24 free shots of Rain or Shine.

According to PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial, the official summon has been hand-delivered to Guiao on Tuesday. The fiery coach will appear before Commissioner Chito Salud on Wednesday morning.
