MONTALBAN – Yeng Guiao conceded Rain or Shine lost its PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup opener against Blackwater early on.
The Elasto Painters were caught flat-footed by the strong start of the Bossing anchored on Kentrell Barkley, so much so they lost their way back to the game and suffered a 131-108 blowout.
“We actually lost the game in the first quarter, or maybe in the first half. Hindi na kami nakabalik. Hindi na kami naka-recover,” acknowledged Guiao on his way out of the Ynares Center here.
“We couldn’t get back our rhythm, we couldn’t get back our momentum.”

Blackwater grabbed an early 23-8 lead before the first quarter ended at 36-25, with Barkley firing 18 points right away.
Unfortunately for RoS, it didn’t get any better from there.
By halftime, the lead ballooned to 16 points before the Bossing kicked off the second half on a 19-4 run to make it a 91-60 contest.
Game over.
Better be better
Guiao admitted being disappointed by the Elasto Painters' lack of effort to give themselves a chance to compete - no less, win - the game.
“I’m disappointed. Natalo kami, but it’s the way you lose, e,” he said. “Masyadong malaki yung lamang, and sana nakadikit ka man lang and you give yourself a chance to win, medyo ok pa. Pero kami we don’t have a chance to win the game up until the end."
“It would have been easier to accept a loss na nagkaroon ka ng chance na manalo.”
But Guiao is not taking anything away from coach Pat Aquino and Blackwater. Without a doubt, he’s giving them their flowers.
“They deserved the win,” he said.
