YANCY de Ocampo tried his darn best to fill the shoes of injured San Miguel teammate June Mar Fajardo after scoring his best PBA output over the last three seasons on Sunday night in Game One of the Smart Bro-Philippine Cup finals.

But in the end, he realized there’s just one and only ‘Kraken.’

“Walang makakapalit kay June Mar,” he said in the aftermath of the Beermen’s 100-91 loss to the Alaska Aces at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “Alam nating he’s the most dominant big man sa PBA ngayon.”

Yancy put up his best Fajardo impersonation in 39 minutes of action, finishing with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds, and three assists in a starting role for the Beermen.

Yet he said his night could have been complete had the reigning champions pulled this one off especially after leading by as many as 12 early in the fourth period.

Unfortunately, the Beermen couldn’t hang on as the Aces scored nine unanswered points to end the game and steal the win.

The veteran center would rather not expound on the game itself, saying, “huwag na lang (interview), talo kami e."

He did vow to face mediamen once San Miguel win a game in the best-of-seven series.
