ARIZONA Reid proved once again that it’s not how you start, but how you finish.
Named the Best Import of the PBA Governors’ Cup, Rain or Shine’s American import came up with a measly two points in the first half of Game Two of the Finals against San Mig Coffee.
Reid, however, justified his billing when he exploded for 27 points in the second half and overtime, including the dagger three-pointer that lifted the Elasto Painters to an 89-87 win that knotted the best-of-five series at a game apiece on Thursday night.
“I want the ball at the end,” Reid said. “That’s why they call me import. I made it. We won Game Two, so I’m looking forward to Game Three.”
He was also glad to repay his teammates’ faith, especially in the extra session, where he scored six of the Painters’ nine points, including the go-ahead triple.
“I shoot that (three-point) shot ten out of ten times, I hit and miss, it doesn’t matter. My teammates trust me, so I shoot it.”
The 6-foot-3 Reid said he was happy to win the Best Import award, his second since the 2011 season.
Nonetheless, the former High Point standout said his ultimate goal is to win the PBA championship, and he’s hopeful that his third tour of duty would finally yield success.
“Every time I’m here, my goal is to get to the championship, so we’re here now (in the Finals), and I’m here to make the best out of it,” he said.
“I’m gonna go all out and help my team win the championship,” added the American import, who went on to finish with 29 points, 17 rebounds and four rebounds.
Game Three is set on Saturday at 5 p.m., just after the Annual Leo Awards at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
