ANTIPOLO – Calvin Abueva continued his stellar play as of late with his second consecutive double-double of the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup.
Abueva churned 17 points and 11 rebounds on Tuesday night in the FiberXers’ 120-103 win over Terrafirma at the Ynares Center.

Eight days ago, the 38-year-old Abueva had conference-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 126-114 loss to San Miguel last Wednesday.
This time, however, Abueva’s double-double resulted in a win, a much-welcome shot in the arm for a Converge side to arrest a four-game losing skid.
Abueva is actually experiencing a resurgence, averaging 12.9 points and 9.7 rebounds after their eighth game of the conference, already a total contrast to his first conference with the FiberXers during the Commissioner’s Cup when he normed 8.7 points and 3.7 rebounds.
Calvin does heavy lifting
Abueva has now scored and rebounded in double-digits four times this conference, two of which occurred in the same game.
“Siguro ‘yung last conference, medyo kumakapa,” said Abueva, who was acquired prior to the Comm’s Cup after a trade with Titan Ultra, with whom he became a Best Player of the Conference candidate in the Philippine Cup.
“This conference, medyo nagkakaroon ng kumpiyansa na. Sinasabi ko nga, kapag pinasok ako, ‘yung minuto ko, tatrabahuin ko. Natrabaho ko naman. That’s why I’m happy na nandito ako (being the Best Player of the Game by TV panel).”
Abueva though refused to take all the credit, as he noted that his teammates were also able to capitalize on their rebounds by playing faster.
“Ang pinakamaganda dito, nakuha namin ‘yung fastbreak namin, ‘yung attack namin, ‘yung running namin.” he said. “Basta pagkakuha ng rebound, takbo agad. Walang bandying-bandying. ‘Yun ang strength namin, tumakbo. Kung hindi ka tumakbo, maiiwanan ka.”
