MONTALBAN – For now, winning takes care of business for Sedrick Barefield.
The sophomore guard was more than pleased seeing Blackwater pull off a 131-108 upset of Rain or Shine to open its campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup on a high note Saturday night.
Barefield complimented the triple-double of import Kentrell Barkley with 24 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals, and three baskets from the three-point arc in an all-around showing that defied the trade talks that hounded him during the off season.

And while nothing is cast in stone yet, the Fil-Am guard appeared very much at home with the same team that selected him no. 2 overall in last season’s draft.
“Winning takes care of everything,” said Barefield. “It feels good. I’m proud of this group. I’m proud how we stayed together.”
Although players’ trade is a regular business in the league, the 29-year-old would rather focus on the Bossing’s current campaign, which obviously got off to a good start with the 23-point rout of the Elasto Painters.
“My mentality now is with my guys. I love this team. I love coach Pat. So I’m just focus on each game I could play with this team,” he said.
At the same time, Barefield added the huge win over the Elasto Painters allowed the Bossing to put in the backburner the 56-point blowout the team suffered against Rain or Shine in the last Commissioner’s Cup.
“The last time we played them, they beat us by 56 (points). So we had a bad taste in our mouth,” he pointed out.
“So we just want to come out and execute our game plan and do it together.”
