JUSTIN Brownlee said winning Game Four on the night he was named the Best Import made it quite a memorable experience.
Brownlee captured the second Best Import award of his career on Wednesday night and later put on a sterling performance embellished by 27 points and 18 rebounds in Ginebra’s 95-84 win over Meralco in Game Four of the PBA Governors ' Cup Finals.
“It’s great. Getting the win made it way sweeter though and definitely, Congratulations to Scottie,” said Brownlee, referring to sharing a separate individual award to Scottie Thompson, who bagged the Best Player of the Conference award.
“Definitely, he is well-deserved for that award. He has been playing incredible especially in the playoffs,” said Brownlee.
“I’m just happy we got the win. But definitely, the Best Import was the icing on the cake. The arena was great,” said Brownlee.
Multiple Best Import winners
With the achievement, Brownlee became the 10th import to win the Best Import award at least twice in his career, joining an elite list that included seven-time winner Bobby Parks, the player the award was named after.
Other players who won multiple Best Import honors were Allen Durham (3), Billy Ray Bates, Derrick Brown, Gabe Freeman, Jerald Honeycutt, Kenny Redfield, Arizona Reid, and Meralco coach Norman Black (2).
Brownlee said he is aware of the rich history of the Best Import award and the players who have won it many times in the past.
“I definitely know some of the guys. It’s definitely good to be mentioned with them and still have a recognition in this league. It’s a great league and knowing the history. It means a lot,” said Brownlee.
