ALASKA eyes a win over reigning champion Barangay Ginebra to finally get on track in the PBA Governors Cup.

The winless Aces battle the Kings at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu in the lone Petron Saturday Special game, hoping to finally crack the win column and stay alive in the heated race for quarterfinal berths.

Game time is at 5 p.m.

It’s not going easy though, for the Aces, who currently tote a 0-5 record and are actually 0 for 13 the past four months dating to the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup.

It’s a stretch that coach Alex Compton describes as ‘a challenging time,’ but one that should also test the resiliency of Alaska as a proud champion franchise.

“This is clearly a difficult game and yet a great opportunity for us to show character and toughness,” said Compton from the Queen City of the South.

Alaska is one of only two teams still to register a win this conference aside — Kia is at the bottom with a 0-7 record.

On the other hand, Ginebra is on a three-game winning streak and has been on a three-week break since dealing NLEX a 110-97 beating in Calasiao, Pangasinan last August 5.

Alaska is coming off a heartbreaking 111-106 double overtime loss against Blackwater on Wednesday.

“While they’ve had three weeks to prepare for us, we are coming off a tough, double overtime loss versus Blackwater,” Compton noted.

Both Alaska and Ginebra are expected to have Gilas stalwarts Calvin Abueva and Japeth Aguilar in their respective lineups.

The match also serves as a homecoming for Cebu cage heroes Dondon Hontiveros and Greg Slaughter.
