WILLY Wilson gets his feet wet as a PBA head coach when Phoenix competes in the Kadayawan Invitational Basketball Tournament in Davao City.
Wilson said the pocket tournament will get him acclimated to being a head coach following his appointment in the spot previously held by Jamike Jarin, who has become the team consultant.

Wilson admitted he still need to get used to being on the spotlight after serving as either a role player or an assistant coach during his basketball career.
“The goal is to do your best and it’s an opportunity for me to get comfortable,” said Wilson. “I’m the type of guy, I’ve always been a role player. I’m more comfortable being in the background, more comfortable sitting in the back row.”
“So now, me being more or less in the forefront as the head coach, it’s a role that I need to become comfortable with," he added.
The Fuelmasters will be up against NLEX, Converge, and Blackwater during the tournament. The Road Warriors and the FiberXers reached the playoffs during the recent Philippine Cup of the 49th Season.

“This Davao tournament is perfect. It’s a perfect opportunity for me to get a chance to get comfortable doing that and run timeouts. It’s also a good opportunity for the players to get used to playing for me,” said Wilson.
The Fuelmasters will play in the opener as they go up against Blackwater on Thursday, 5 p.m.
After playing for Rain or Shine last season, Francis Escandor recently signed a two-year deal with Phoenix, and will see action in the tournament in Davao where his family is from.
