THE wife of a former PBA player needs help.
Maria Josefina Referente-Palad, wife of former University of Santo Tomas star and Ginebra player Bennett Palad, is battling cancer, having recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
The sports-inclined Palad family has started a fundraising program to help alleviate the monetary load as her hospital bill gets expensive by the minute, and is at P 2.6 million, according to her daughter, Jones Palad-Collado.
Maria Josefina, who played for the National University women’s volleyball team in the 1970s along with sisters Maria Referente and Jeng Referente-Legaspi, is currently confined at the Coronary Care Unit of a hospital due to complications in her abdomen.
Josie’s daughter, Joyce Palad, is the latest in the line of athletes in her family, having played for University of the Philippines until 2013 and is now an assistant coach of the Lady Maroons.
