SAN Miguel Beer didn’t get what it wanted from import Quincy Miller that the parting of ways between the two parties became inevitable.
Coach Leo Austria said the Beermen were expecting to see the same do-it-all Miller that played in the PBA before with Converge.
But it was a different Miller who showed up in the six games he played for the team – three each in the Commissioner’s Cup and the East Asia Super League (EASL).

“Hindi namin nakita what we’re expecting from him, the game he played before,” said Austria of the former NBA player.
A second-round pick of the Denver Nuggets in the 2012 NBA draft, expectations were high for Miller as he got another shot at redeeming himself following a forgettable stint with TNT in last year’s Commissioner’s Cup and the EASL.
Unfortunately, the 32-year-old product of Baylor College looked like a shadow of the old, explosive player that he once was.
In three games with San Miguel in the PBA, the import averaged a pedestrian 15.6 points and 11 rebounds as the Beermen tumbled to a 1-2 start including back-to-back heartbreakers against NLEX and Rain or Shine.
During that same stretch, eight-time MVP June Mar Fajardo submitted better numbers than their import with his averages of 16.0 points and 14.5 rebounds.
Miller’s EASL stint was not as productive either as the Beermen lost back-to-back games at home to the Taoyuan Pilots and the Suwon KT Sonicboom.

And so management decided to give Miller the pink slip, replacing him with Torren Jones in the Commissioner’s Cup and Jabari Narcis in the EASL.
Narcis eventually, was tapped to take the place of Jones in the PBA where the Beermen are the defending champions.
“That’s why heto ang solusyon,” said Austria of the decision to have a new import for San Miguel.
