WONDERING why Jayson Castro was wearing a jersey with the name 'William' at back during the Philippines’ debut against Saudi Arabia in the Fiba-Asia Championship?
Well, it's not a mistake on the part of the jersey manufacturer.
According to team officials, the Gilas Pilipinas guard's real surname is William, but he chose to carry the surname of his mother as he rose from the ranks in the basketball scene.
“That is the name on his passport,” said Virgil Villavicencio, media affairs chief of the PBA teams under the PLDT umbrella.
Villavicencio said the former Philippine Christian University Dolphin's real name is actually Jayson Castro William.
