RAIN or Shine sustained its hot streak in the PBA Governors Cup, coasting to a 104-85 victory over Meralco on Tuesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Fresh from a 117-108 whipping of Ginebra last Sunday, the Elasto Painters brandished the same dominance against Bolts as they established an early lead that steadily ballooned on the way to their fourth straight victory and fifth overall against three losses.
Import AZ Reid continued his solid play while the locals led by Raymond Almazan and Gabe Norwood provided ample support for the Elasto Painters, who gained a provisional hold of solo fourth spot while handing the Bolts their sixth defeat in eight games.
“We’re just riding our momentum and we’re playing defense,” Painters coach Yeng Guiao said. “And everybody is making a contribution, even the guys off the bench.”
“I hope it’s not too late (making the Top 4),” Guiao added. “I hope we don’t lose steam.”
Reid tallied 25 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block, while Almazan, the Painters’ top rookie, collared 15 boards, scored 12 points, blocked four shots, and scored on a vicious throwdown in the payoff period where the Painters’ cushion grew to as many as 20 points.
So dominant were the Painters that stars Paul Lee and Jeff Chan combined for just nine points as both didn’t need to play more than 19 minutes each.
The Painters also scored 23 fastbreak points and 21 turnover points, while limiting the Bolts to just 34.3-percent shooting from the field.
