JERRICK Ahanmisi wanted to stay with Magnolia but their contract negotiation apparently did not produce terms mutually agreeable to both sides and before Ahanmisi knew it, he was being traded to Terrafirma.
Sources told SPIN.ph that Magnolia offered the former Adamson University stalwart a two-year contract. But Ahanmisi, the sources added, wanted just a one-year deal and a higher salary.
Ahanmisi's demand probably did not go well with Magnolia management and decided to trade him to Terrafirma in exchange for Javi Gomez De Liano.
The 27-year-old De Liano has since signed a three-year contract with the Hotshots.
As for Ahanmisi, there's no word yet on whether Terrafirma management has agreed to give him the package that he was asking from Magnolia. But whatever the outcome, observers believe Ahanmisi may rue his decision not to accept Magnolia's offer.
Terrafirma, after all, is not exactly a franchise wallowing in funds. It is, in fact, up for sale and ready to leave the PBA anytime.
Ahanmisi, 27, played his first four seasons with the Hotshots, who picked him in the first round at no. 10 overall during the 2020 PBA draft. - Gerry Ramos
KQ can't get KBL green light for SEA Games
Kevin Quiambao has expressed his desire to play for Gilas Pilipinas in the Southeast Asian Games. But this may not happen as reports said his team in South Korea, where he is signed, would not want to release him.
He may not be available, but a few others are waiting in the wings eager to wear the national colors. Two such players are Ray Parks and Matthew Wright. Gilas coach Norman Black said the two are in the process of getting a release from their respective ballclubs from the Japan B.League.
One drawback, should they get a release, is that both can't join the team’s practices in Manila as they still have to honor their Japan B.League commitments. Sources said contingency plans are being prepared so both Parks and Wright would have enough time for practice and then playing in the SEA Games.
Parks is going for his fourth SEA Games gold medal after being part of the national team in 2011, 2013, and 2017.
Wright is gunning for his second SEA Games after winning in 2019 although he was part of the team that was stunned by Indonesia in Hanoi and settled for the silver - one of only two times the Philippines didn't win the gold. - Reuben Terrado
American imports in demand in PVL
JUST like last year, American imports are expected to be the go-to options for most PVL teams in the 2025 Reinforced Conference.
SPIN.ph learned that at least four teams have secured the services of reinforcements from the United States.
One of whom is 29-year-old outside hitter Courtney Schwan who was signed by defending champion Creamline.
She is a well-travelled spiker from newly-crowned US Major League Volleyball (MLV) champion Orlando Valkyries.
At least two of Schwan’s MLV rivals are also expected to be in the PVL next month, along with a few American players who are no stranger to Philippine volleyball.
Other PVL teams, considered not seriously contending for the title, have reportedly opted to sign Europeans from countries like Russia, Spain and Belgium.
Import-laden play is expected to begin in early October at the conclusion of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
