CHANCES of Kyt Jimenez rejoining San Miguel are high if the current PBA Philippine Cup leader makes it deep into the playoffs.
As per his personal estimate, the rookie guard doesn't see himself playing again at least until late in May as he continues to recuperate from a huge laceration on his forearm caused by a freak accident at home.
“Tingnan natin kasi by May pa ako makapag-start ng sa basketball side naman,” said Jimenez Wednesday.
The YouTube sensation still has his right arm in a cast, which should be removed by the third week of this month.
He now undergoes regular therapy at St. Luke’s hospital.
“Tuluy-tuloy ang therapy ko sa hospital na ngayon."
The Beermen remain on top of the standings after notching their fifth straight win, 113-110, over a hard-fighting Terrafirma side at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Chances are the team is expected to notch a quarterfinals berth and make another serious run at a repeat, which could bode well for Jimenez’s return.
The final date of the eliminations is on May 5. The playoffs format will have the top 2 teams enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage over Nos. 7 and 8, while the rest of the quarterfinalists will engage in a best-of-three series.
The semifinals and finals are both best-of-seven series.
So even with his arm still in cast, Jimenez keeps himself in shape by doing cardio exercises.
“Nag-e-extra pa rin ako sa sarili ko para hindi ko mapabayaan yung kundisyon ko. Nagwo-work out ako ng legs and jogging, tapos takbo,” he said.
“Sana nga (makahabol) pa ako.”
Jimenez won his first PBA championship during the last Commissioner’s Cup as San Miguel beat Magnolia for the title.
