TALK 'N Text’s failed campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup has finally give its players a long, well-deserved break which the team used to relax and recharge in Boracay.
Team manager Aboy Castro revealed to Spin.ph that management has given the Tropang Texters four days and three nights of rest and recreation on the island paradise beginning on Wednesday.
“Pagpa-pahingahin muna namin `yung mga boys sa Boracay. Pahinga lang muna sandali. Para pati yung mga Gilas players maka-relax din muna bago sila bumalik sa practice,” said Castro.
The Boracay trip is just the start of a long rest for the Tropang Texters, who won the Philippine Cup championship last conference before falling one victory short of advancing to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Talk `N Text’s two imports this conference, Jerome Jordan and Tony Mitchell, are also part of the Boracay trip.
“Binigyan muna namin ng chance to bond with their teammates, and time na rin ito para makita nila `yung ibang cities and tourist spots dito sa atin,” said Castro.
Castro said Mitchell, who took over from seven-footer Jordan in the final three games of the semifinal series against Ginebra, is set to return to the US this weekend before rejoining the Texters in the season-ending Governors Cup beginning on August 14.
The Talk n Text official bared the team already has a commitment with the high-scoring Mitchell, who will nonetheless be given the chance to attend NBA summer camps from Jule 2-18.
“As soon as he (Mitchell) is done with that, hopefully he can come back and join the team in practice,” said the Texters team manager.
“He has some opportunities with the NBA. We’d like the best for him but obviously we also like to get him back. So we’ll just take it from there,” said Castro, who also did not deny at having contingency plans in case Mitchell fails to return.
