CHICAGO — While it is celebrating its 50th Season, the PBA is sadly several years removed from the glory, golden days.

But if rumors swirling around the jungle that is Facebook are to be believed, the league’s fortunes are about to change.

A savior is looming, a generational-type talent whose popularity transcends basketball.

St. Dwight, as in Dwight Ramos.

The question is: Will the Gilas Pilipinas anchor and Japan B.League star enter the Season 51 PBA Rookie Draft on January 2027?

“Somewhere down the road, the PBA is a viable option under the right circumstances. But I am with the Levanga Hokkaido and I’m very happy to be here,” Ramos told me in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

A BIG IF.

The door isn’t open, but it sure ain’t closed, either.

Which means anything can happen because while contracts can seem ironclad, they are still beholden to shifting tides.

And the possibility of Dwight coming to the PBA understandably excites Ginebra fans as well as coach Tim Cone, whose team has the inside track on the rights to the No. 1 pick of next year’s draft.

“Dwight playing for Ginebra would be a dream come true. He is not just a popular player, he is a great player as well, and a nice, humble and extremely coachable person. That’s why he is one of the stars of Gilas.”

Cone, however, tempered his expectations.

“I wonder if Japan would ever let him go. He is incredibly popular there as well.”

Maybe not, but Ginebra’s parent company, SMC, sure has the financial wherewithal to entice Ramos with a package that could match or exceed his Japan salary.

WORTHY INVESTMENT.

With a combined 1.4 million followers across multiple social media platforms, Dwight is a one-man neon billboard who can resuscitate the PBA from an aspect where it’s dying.

Marketing the PBA brand before a younger, more tech-savvy demographic.

Alongside his girlfriend Kianna Dy, a gorgeous looker disguised as a pro volleyball star, this power couple will extend the league’s audience into the celebrity sphere.

And lest we forget, he’s a great player who just finished the 2025-26 B.League season averaging 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per while shooting 35 percent from 3.

Only 27 years young, St. Dwight is what the basketball gods have in store for a proud franchise that is suffering through a 39-month title drought.
