WHILE admitting he needs to use his fouls more prudently, Wayne Chism felt there was little consistency in the way the referees called the infractions against him in Game Four of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals on Wednesday night.

The Rain or Shine import, who came in averaging 40.33 minutes in the first three games, played just 26 minutes after being saddled by early foul trouble as the Elasto Painters lost 99-92 that tied that best-of-seven series at two games apiece.

“There are going to be different calls every night,” Chism said. “I just got to be prepared to stay out of foul trouble.”

The 6-foot-9 American big man also felt the law of averages caught up with him after committing just six fouls in the first three games combined.

“I knew I was going to get some type of fouls after three consecutive games without being in foul trouble.”

Chism picked up four quick fouls, the last with just less than three minutes gone by in the second period, forcing Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao to keep him on the bench until midway through the third quarter.

Guiao believes Chism’s fourth foul with nine minutes and nine seconds to go in the second quarter was unwarranted.

“The last call he got was a ticky-tacky foul,” the outspoken mentor said. “But we just need Wayne to be a little cautious with fouls.”

“Sometimes I couldn’t really blame him because they (referees) were letting go of a lot more of physical contacts than the ones he did. But the ones he did got called,” he added.

“I think that’s the way they (Texters) can win: they need to have our import in foul trouble.”

Chism’s foul woes came after just being crowned the Best Import of the conference.

“(Winning the award) didn’t help me today,” the soft-spoken cager said. “I wish it was on the side and you can get behind closed doors or something, because it ate me up out there.

“It’s a good feeling to have and I worked hard for it, but I can’t let that be on my mind the whole series,” he added.
