WAYNE Chism said his short-lived stint with Magnolia was still one of the best challenges he had in his basketball career.
Chism said he was up to the challenge when he came in to the Hotshots, in the face of several import changes this conference, with the team needing to pile up wins in order to make it to the Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.
Prior to Magnolia, Chism has been an import for Rain or Shine and NLEX, but the former Tennessee standout said the stint with Hotshots also stands out.
“I enjoyed this challenge,” said Chism. “It’s the best challenge I ever had to come for three games to actually help the team make the playoffs and try to advance to the playoffs. It was a great time for me. I really enjoyed the pressure that was under me to get the two wins, actually three, but we fell short and I’m happy that they gave me an opportunity.”
In his final game this conference, Chism had 20 points and 15 rebounds but it was not enough as the Hotshots fell to Alaska, 89-78.
“Wayne got in foul trouble quickly. It was not a good start for us. Four fouls for me, sat down, my team got down early so the rest of the game was pretty much a fightback the whole time. When I got out, the coach of Alaska did a great job. He knew the strategy once I went out. Once I went out, he went to his bread and butter. For the rest of the game, he knew how to control the game,” said Chism.
Chism refused to speculate whether he coming early would have changed the fortunes of the squad that was fresh from a finals appearance in the Philippine Cup.
“If I came early, it’s no telling what the outcome would be. The outcome is we could have won, we could have lost. I feel like if I had come early, we probably would have better more chemistry, the team could have flown better.
“But I came in when the coaching staff and the bosses wanted me in and I can’t argue with that. And I came in and did what I was supposed to do,” said Chism.
