VETERAN forward Jay Washington of GlobalPort is once again on the trading block and is being eyed by Rain or Shine, which is in need of a big man to shore up its undersized frontline.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Washington has been offered by GlobalPort to Rain or Shine, which in turn has shown interest in the athletic forward who has had stints with Talk 'N Text and San Miguel Beer.
Even Rain or Shine co-owner Raymund Yu admitted he has knowledge of the ongoing negotiations for Washington, who left on Friday with Gilas Pilipinas for Miami to begin training camp for the Fiba World Cup.
“Meron nga daw ganoon (na negotiation), pero I leave it up to the management and the coaching staff,” said the soft-spoken Asian Coatings franchise big boss.
A source from GlobalPort also confirmed the negotiations but insisted that a deal may depend on who Rain or Shine will get with the second and ninth picks overall in the August 24 PBA rookie draft.
Rain or Shine, the source added, may likely drop its bid for Washington if it gets a quality big man from the draft.
“Naghahanap kasi sila ng malaki, so depende talaga 'yan sa quality of big man sa draft picks nila, kung may makukuha sila,” said the GlobalPort insider.
GlobalPort sources declined to speak on why Washington is suddenly being peddled to other teams after coming off a solid season as a starter for the Batang Pier.
However, another informant told Spin.ph that tension between Washington and fellow Fil-Am Alex Cabagnot prompted management to give up one of the two players, who sources said have been at odds even during their time together with the Petron Blaze Boosters.
