CHRIS Ross continues to be the walking wounded of the San Miguel Beermen.
A sprained ankle and a hurting Achilles added up to the veteran guard’s health woes as Ross failed to finish San Miguel’s 119-107 win over Alaska Friday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Ross sprained his ankle in the first quarter of the game at the Astrodome and then felt some discomfort in his Achilles that limited him to 13 minutes of play in the Beermen’s second win in five outings.
The ankle, according to Ross, was also the same one he sprained in practice two days ago.
“I could have kept playing but we already had the lead, so we kind of decided to just shut it off,” said Ross, who went scoreless but had two rebounds and two steals.
The two injuries are just the latest Ross had to endure this conference. Prior to the start of the tournament, he admitted having a tear on his shoulder and a torn meniscus on his knee that kept him out of the Beermen’s first game against NorthPort.
But he’s such a warrior that Ross doesn’t see any need to have the injuries checked on Saturday.
“I don’t think that’s bad to check (it). It’s just a little bit of a discomfort especially of playing here which is a little bit of an old facility and the floor is a bit harder and kind of take its toll on the players,” he said.
“It doesn’t need to be checked, it’s just something to be managed.”
It’s just really more of a precautionary measure on his part, according to Ross, and there’s exactly nothing to worry about.
He isn’t certain however, if he’ll be able to play in San Miguel’s next game against Magnolia on Wednesday.
“We’ll see how my body reacts and then go from there,” he said. “We’ll see how I feel on Wednesday.”
