HENRY Sims failed to make it to Petron's rescheduled practice on Wednesday afternoon after getting stranded in Guam due to a snag in his flight schedule.
San Miguel Corporation’s basketball operations head Robert Non explained that a sudden change in the flight details of the 6-10 former Georgetown Hoyas big man caused the delay in his arrival.
“Yes (hindi nakarating si Sims), naiba lang yung flight. But he is arriving at 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday),” said Non in a text message. “He is now in Guam and his connecting flight to Manila is 6 p.m. tonight.”
The delay left him with just a day of practice with the team before Sims makes his debut in a PBA Commissioner's Cup game against Meralco on Friday.
His non-arrival also messed up the preparations of the Boosters, who had moved their practice in the afternoon precisely to allow Sims to get used to his new team as soon as possible.
“It could have been a good practice with him, I’m excited to see him, they say he is good daw,” said Petron hotshot Alex Cabagnot while referring to a Spin.ph story on Sims.
“Pero ganun talaga, it happens all the time sa mga international flights,” said Cabagnot.
Another Petron sentinel, Denok Miranda, was caught by surprise upon learning that Sims did not arrive.
“Talaga wala? Nag-adjust pa naman kami, kasi nga darating siya. Pero sana dumating,” said Miranda. “Pero kung hindi dumating, bukas na lang ulit. May time pa naman."
