MM Belarmino is ready to take the good with the bad as she supports her boyfriend, Barangay Ginebra forward Kevin Ferrer, in his PBA career.
From their simple dates after classes at University of Santo Tomas, the couple have waded into uncharted territory as MM tries to keep up with Kevin's hectic schedule while playing for the league's most popular ballclub.
However, with the fame comes the haters, less time together, and so much more.
“It was hard at first knowing he’s a public figure and sa time ‘yun ang pinaka crucial, ang time namin together na hindi kami palaging nagkakasama kasi he has training,” shared MM. “But nakapag-adjust naman ako kasi I support him 100 percent."
Although Kevin was already a basketball star in college as a vital cog in UST’s three finals appearances in the UAAP over the past five years, MM admitted the PBA is a totally different arena.
The fair-skinned Belarmino oftentimes turns into a prayer warrior during close Ginebra games and has learned to turn a blind eye to the online bashing aimed at Kevin.
“I learned na ‘wag papansinin na lang the haters and the bashers because they will always be there,” she said. “Just support lang the team lalo na the boyfriend. Manalo, matalo may masasabi. It’s part of their game, it’s part of their work.”
MM’s transition from the UAAP to the PBA, however, got a little easier, thanks to her fellow WAGS newbies Pau Fajardo and Kayesha Chua.
Fajardo, girlfriend of Ginebra do-it-all guard Scottie Thompson, and Chua, lady love of forward Aljon Mariano, were there to give MM pointers along the way.
“Naging okay naman ang adjustment kasi I’m friends naman with Pau and si Kaye, so it wasn’t really hard kasi they taught me na, ‘O, ganito sila kapag ano sa PBA.’ So not much of an adjustment since there are other girlfriends to brief me about it,” she said.
While Kevin is just starting his PBA journey, MM assured she will be there all the way.
“I’ll be there for him no matter what,” she said.
