ONE must definitely be in tip-top condition to crack San Miguel Beer’s ultra-tight rotation.
That’s why Von Pessumal is doing some extra work before and after practice with his new bike.
The sophomore gunner out of Ateneo revealed he has been traveling on two wheels since the Beermen’s PBA Philippine Cup conquest.
“Nung offseason, nag-start ako mag-bike training for extra cardio,” Pessumal told SPIN.ph after practice at Acropolis gym. “Para when I come to practice, warmed up na ako, deretso na sa shooting. Tapos after practice, extra workout.”
It helps, of course, that the deadshot lives just nearby at White Plains.
“Lapit ko lang eh, so imbis na mag-kotse ako, bike na lang,” the 25-year-old cager said. “Sayang sa gas eh.”
Pessumal bought his sturdy bike at a shop near Upper Deck gym in Pasig for P25,000, while his helmet cost P3,000.
And the 6-foot-2 shooting guard has been addicted to his new toy ever since, riding alone or with a group of friends.
“Every day ako nagba-bike kahit off day eh,” Pessumal said. “Kasi yung sa village ko, maraming uphill tsaka downhill, so papunta dito, I don’t do extra laps, pero pabalik, (iniikot) ko yung White Plains para, lalo na yung uphill, kasi okay siya sa legs.”
So expect Pessumal to be in shape when his name gets called by coach Leo Austria.
