Compton compares Vic Manuel's impact to that of Allan Caidic. Find out why

SHELVED for almost five months now, Vic Manuel admits that he's already itching to hit the court for Alaska.

"Nanggigil na nga ako eh. Gusto ko nang maglaro eh," he said.

The 31-year-old banger remained in street clothes when the Aces made their debut in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup, scoring a 111-98 victory over Columbian Dyip on Sunday.

Manuel has already recovered from his back injury, but is now dealing with a hurting right calf, keeping the Licab, Nueva Ecija native in doubt for Alaska's next games.

"Three weeks na akong nagpa-practice at nakakabalik na ako sa kundisyon. Tapos nung Monday, parang nag-tight yung calf ko, na-pull ko ata siya kaya hanggang ngayon, di pa ako nagpa-practice ulit. May rehab ako na isang linggo pa. Nakaka-frustrate lang," he admitted.

But Alaska coach Alex Compton isn't batting an eyelash, knowing that once Manuel returns, it won't take long before he gets back to his peak form.

"I'm not sure yet (when he'll return), but he's getting after it in the weight room. Pinapahirapan namin siya sa weights eh. I think he'll be ok," he said.

Compton's confidence on Manuel is so high that he even likened his tireless forward's impact to the game to that of PBA legend Allan Caidic.

"I feel Vic is kind of like Allan Caidic in the sense. I think coach Allan could not touch a basketball for two years and walk into any gym in the country filled with ex-players, and be the single best shooter and win a shootout every single time. So I think Vic could not play for a year and he's still gonna be the single best scorer in the gym," the bench tactician said in awe.

"He's got that thing, I didn't teach him and I don't know where he's got it and I can't explain, but I'm glad he's on our team. When he gets going, you know his points per minute this conference last year, he was incredible. So we're just gonna make sure he's got that Mr. Philippines-body ready to go and knock guys down, and he'll be all right."

That's why as much as Manuel has stayed off the court, Compton expects the seven-year PBA veteran to once again be a difference-maker for the Aces once he finally makes his comeback.

"Siguro pagbalik niya, sobrang maskulado na ni Muscle Man. Baka sasali na sa Mr. Philippines yan," said the always jovial Alaska mentor.
