ALASKA big man Vic Manuel is poised for a return by the tail end of the PBA Governors in the hopes of giving the Aces’ final push for a playoff berth a much-needed boost.
Manuel said he’s already rejoined the Aces in practice and initially thought he’d be activated in time for their game against Globalport last Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo which Alaska won, 133-106.
But Alaska doctors thought it best for him to complete his rehabilitation and be fully healed from the calf injury that kept him out of action since the start of the season-ending conference.
“Sa totoo lang puwede na talaga, kaso ayaw pa akong bigyan ng go-signal nila Doc (Facundo Sun) at Sir Gus (Vargas),” said the 29-year-old native of Licab, Nueva Ecija.
“Gusto nila mangyari i-kumpleto yung rehab ko. So one week pa siguro.”
Manuel said he’s likely to sit out the Aces’ game against Phoenix on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena, but expects to finally play his first game this conference next Friday against NLEX.
“Last game namin yun sa eliminations. Hopefully, makatulong kahit paano,” he said.
Sitting haplessly on the bench has been a frustrating experience for Manuel, especially with the Aces playing inconsistent basketball that left them scrambling to make the playoffs entering the homestretch of the elims.
“Nakaka-miss ring maglaro,” he said. “Kaso gusto mo mang tumulong, wala ka rin namang magawa,” said the former standout from Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA).
The same injury sidelined Manuel during the last Commissioner’s Cup finals won by Rain or Shine.
