ANTIPOLO – Vic Manuel felt he contributed to LA Tenorio’s frustrations that led to the Barangay Ginebra star’s poor shooting in Alaska’ 97-83 win over the Gin Kings on Sunday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Manuel and Tenorio had a spat late in the third quarter, the two having some words after the latter undercut the Alaska workhorse and resulted in a dangerous fall.

As Tenorio approached him, Manuel misinterpreted the Ginebra point guard's action and immediately turned defensive, only to find out that Tenorio was trying to help him get up.

(After the game) lalapitan ko sana eh, pero umalis agad.”

The dangerous foul resulted in a flagrant foul 1 call on Tenorio who vehemently disagreed with the call as he sat on the bench for three minutes, adding to his frustrations after missing all but one of his 13 shots for just five points in almost 30 minutes

“Magandang bonus din sa’min yun kasi medyo masama yung nilaro niya,” Manuel said. “Swerte na lang siguro kami.”

While Tenorio had an off night, Manuel was his usual self, scoring 14 of his 18 points in the second half, and adding five boards, two assists, one steal, and zero turnover in 23 minutes off the bench.

“I think Vic was a completely different person in the second half than he was in the first half,” Aces coach Alex Compton said. “You saw an All-Star in the second half, and you saw a guy who struggled in the first half. And I think that obviously really mattered.”

His performance was a result of grueling training sessions, Manuel said.

“Sa practice pa lang, talagang nakikipag-compete eh,” Manuel said. “Walang easy kahit sa practice, talagang bigay-todo lahat, sobrang aggressive, kaya yun, nadadala namin sa game.”
