Blowout loss, not garbage-time Lassiter triple, sparked rare flare up, says Gabe Norwood

    Apr 22, 2017

WITH a new look came a different demeanor for Gabe Norwood on Saturday night.

The usually mild-mannered Rain or Shine utility man appeared to blow his top over Marcio Lassiter taking a last-second triple even with their Commissioner’s Cup game already decided in favor of San Miguel Beer.

The 32-year-old Norwood admitted he let his emotions prevail in a late commotion with the SMB staff as players from both teams approached each other to shake hands after the Beermen’s 111-98 win.

But more than Lassiter’s inconsequential triple with two seconds left that determined the final score, Norwood was triggered by the way the Beermen blew the Elasto Painters out.

“I was just upset about losing,” Norwood, who sported cornrows, said after the game. “They beat us from beginning to end. Guess frustrations boiled over for me, let my emotions get the best of me.”

After all, the Elasto Painters are hardly playing like the defending champions that they are as they dropped to a 4-3 win-loss card.

And Norwood, who registered five points, five boards, three assists, and two blocks in 35 minutes, feels his team can learn a thing or two from the in-form Beermen, who registered a fifth straight victory.

“You can see that have a lot of fun on the court,” Norwood said. “Hats off to them, they have a system that’s rolling and playing great basketball.”
