URATEX Dream and Philippine Navy-Go For Gold emerged the early leaders a week into the opening of the PBA Women’s 3x3 Invitational.
The Dream won their first two outings against Angelis Resort and Philippine Air Force to take the lead in the standings at 2-0, while Navy edged out Gilas-B to place second at 1-0.
Pingol powers Uratex
Former National University hotshot Kaye Pingol carried most of the load for Uratex in the twin kill.
She had 12 points in Dream’s 20-15 win over Angelis in the opening match of the month-long tournament at the Ayala Malls Makati Circuit, and then followed it up with an eighth-point production in a 19-16 victory over Air Force.
Navy meanwhile, leaned on former UAAP Finals MVP Trixie Antiquera in its 14-10 win over Gilas-B.
Antiquera finished with six points including the deuce that clinched the win for the team.
Navy subdues Gilas-B
Navy joined Uratex Dream as the only teams that have a perfect record so far in the revived tournament.
Jhazmin Joson finished with five points to pace Gilas-B, which fell to an even 1-1 record in a tie with Angelis Resort.
Veteran Allana Lim rallied Angelis Resort to a 19-17 overtime upset of Gilas-A to make it to the win column.
Lim willed Angelis from three points down in the final 55 seconds by hitting a pressure-packed deuce that forged the extra period at 17-all.
The former national team member out of Far Eastern University then hit all of Angelis’ two points in overtime to clinch the dramatic win.
Gilas-A is the only winless team in the tournament so far at 0-2 after back-to-back losses on opening day against Gilas-B and Angelis Resort.
