TALK ‘N Text tries to keep its unblemished record in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup when it guns for a commanding 2-0 lead against Rain or Shine Wednesday in the resumption of their best-of-five semifinals series at the Astrodome.
The Tropang Texters rode on the shooting prowess of Jimmy Alapag, the playmaking skills of Jason Castro, and the aggressive rebounding of import Richard Howell to hang tough in the endgame and complete a come-from-behind 91-85 win in Game One on Monday night.
The victory kept Talk `N Text’s unbeaten in 11 games in the midseason tournament, a streak it will try to further stretch in the 8 p.m. game.
“Our focus will be on making the needed adjustments to try and limit the lane penetrations of Rain or Shine,” Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black said.
But despite the seeming invincibility of the Tropang Texters, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said he likes the team’s chances against the top-seeded Tropang Texters.
“One thing is certain, we feel we can beat this team,” Guiao boldly said after the loss in the series opener, where the Elasto Painters led by as many as 10 points.
Black stressed that despite holding Rain or Shine to just 39.3 percent field goal shooting, import Wayne Chism still got away with numerous easy baskets inside the paint.
“On our end, we just want to stay zoned in on the goal at hand, which is to win. That means offensively, we must read their defense better and have better ball movement,” added Black.
