AS if the pain of watching San Mig celebrate a season grand slam at their expense was not enough, Rain or Shine star Beau Belga also had to go through the ordeal of leaving his family to join Gilas Pilipinas in the trip to Wuhan, China for the Fiba Asia Cup.
Instead of licking his wounds after Rain or Shine's Game Five defeat in the company of his wife and baby, the wide-bodied slotman, along with teammate Paul Lee, had to to be at the airport just a few hours later to catch Gilas' flight to Wuhan.
A Spin.ph video caught the emotional scene at the airport when the pride of Gubat, Sorsogon bid his family farewell. Here's the video:
“Two hours lang after the game, umalis na siya eh.
Mrs. Belga bared how her husband was unprepared to make the trip with Gilas since the 250-pound banger was too preoccupied with the finals series against San Mig.
Nabigla nga rin siya na ang flight pala nila medaling araw,” said Mrs. Belga of the 5 a.m. flight of the Gilas team.
Tapos bahay lang kami madalas,” she said.
While most fans see Belga as a fearless enforcer on the court, Queenie revealed her husband’s soft spot.
“Iyakin yung si Beau. Iyakin talaga yun. Alam ko umiyak rin sa airport 'yun. Hindi lang niya pinakita sa labas ng airport yung pag-iyak niya kasi may ibang tao,” she said of Belga, who was even interviewed once by Spin.ph expressing homesickness while he was with the Gilas team in Lithuania.
And though her husband has no sure spot in the national team, she declared how determined Belga is to serve the flag and country.
Asked how Belga felt after Rain or Shine lost the chance of avenging their 2014 Philippine Cup finals loss to San Mig, she said the 6-5 banger was also regrets.
“Grabe talaga panghihinayang niya.
