THE PBA board is set to convene to tackle a request by TV coveror AKTV to move the telecast of the games in the Commissioner's Cup Finals from IBC 13 to TV5.
PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial on Friday said TV5 has written a letter to Commissioner Chito Salud informing him of the plans to broadcast the games in the station instead of IBC 13, which used to show the games under a block-time agreement with AKTV.
However, MediaQuest Holdings Incorporated chairman Manny V. Pangilinan announced last week that the company won't renew its block-time contract with IBC 13 when it lapses in May.
“Sumulat sa amin ang TV5 na kung pwuede ililipat ang finals this conference sa TV5. Pero kailangan yan ng board approval sa Huwebes kaya pag-uusapan pa muna iyan,” Marcial said.
Marcial said Salud will discuss the TV5 offer next Thursday with the board.
Last week, new Sports5 head Chot Reyes assured the public that the live coverage of the games will not be compromised despite the switch.
Reyes, who also handles the Gilas Pilipinas squad, explained that AKTV is obligated contractually to air the PBA games live on free television but admitted there are still no plans in place.
