Was Rosario snubbed or overlooked in Gilas tribute? Troy says he wasn't offended

TROY Rosario played down his omission from the Gilas Pilipinas squad that was honored during the opening ceremony of PBA Season 41 on Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The members of national team that bagged the silver medal in the recent Fiba Asia Championship in China were called up on stage one by one, but Rosario was curiously omitted.

Fellow reserve Gary David was called up, along with the 11 locals in the team who were joined by coach Tab Baldwin.

But Rosario believes it was unintentional.

“Maliit na bagay lang 'yun,” the Talk ‘N Text rookie told Spin.ph. “Nakalimutan lang siguro.”

“Oh ‘di kaya sa likod ako ng papel nasulat, ‘di lang nabasa,” he added in jest.

The season's top rookie pick overall, Moala Tautuaa, was the team's reserve naturalized player who saw action in the Jones Cup in Taipei. He, too, was not called up on stage.

But the biggest oversight was Rosario.

The former National University star had been with the team since Day One and had a chance to crack the final 12 as the only then-amateur player, before this year’s No. 2 overall pick barely missed the cut and became a reserve.

The 6-foot-6 forward still joined the team in Changsa, China and even had an extended tour of duty for flag and country in the last Fiba 3x3 World Tour in Abu Dhabi last weekend.

Still, the shy Rosario said he didn't take offense.

“Okay lang kahit ‘di natawag; Ang importante, alam ko sa sarili ko na may nagawa ako para sa bansa ko kahit simpleng bagay,” the 23-year-old Rosario said.
