TNT shot the lights out in the fourth quarter to wrap up a 123-118 victory over Phoenix Pulse on Wednesday night and stay undefeated in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The KaTropa buried six straight three-pointers to open the fourth quarter and never looked back on the way to their third straight victory - good or a share of the league lead with sister team NLEX.
Troy Rosario led TNT’s attack from the outside, scoring 32 points on 6-of-9 shooting from threes. He had two in that barrage by the KaTropa to begin the fourth including the conversion that put them ahead, 112-103.
Rosario drilled two more including a one from the right corner to increase TNT’s lead to 10, 120-110, with only two minutes left.
In all, TNT shot 43-of-77 from the field and 18-of-30 for a 60-percent clip from three-point land. The KaTropa were also 8-of-11 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter.
TNT coach Bong Ravena took issue with the KaTropa's defense.
“Hindi kami puwedeng maglaro ng ganun,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena. “Wala kaming tatalunin na teams sa coming games. We need to improve.”
KJ McDaniels matched Rosario's 32 points and added eight rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks, while RR Pogoy scored 22 points while shooting 4-of-5 from threes.
Jayson Castro was the fourth TNT player with 20 points or more, hitting three treys.
“All the locals stepped up. Troy, Jayson, RR. But we cannot afford to play that kind of defense,” said Ravena.
Matthew Wright had 30 points, and Eugene Phelps had 29 points and 11 rebounds, but the Fuel Masters couldn't hold on to a 94-91 lead they took in the fourth quarter.
