TROY Rosario heaved a sigh of relief as he made up for a late miscue with two plays on both ends that preserved TNT KaTropa’s 102-98 win over GlobalPort in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night.
At the height of the Batang Pier rally, the Texters sophomore forward committed an offensive foul on Niño Canaleta off a timeout with 24 seconds left, giving GlobalPort, down by just two, an extra possession and a chance to complete the comeback from 21 points down.
“Kala ko nga walang offensive foul ‘yun eh,” Rosario stressed. “Pinoprotektahan ko lang yung bola, eh wala, tinawag, so part ng game.”
“Buti nakabawi,” the latest addition to the Gilas Pilipinas pool added.
The 6-foot-7 cager made up for the lapse right away, bothering a kick-out pass by Stanlet Pringle intended for Canaleta that instead went to Roger Pogoy, who dished it out to Rosario before the latter drew a foul and converted his charities to seal the deal.
“Tinulungan ko lang yung bantay ni Pringle kasi talagang aatake at aatake at iiskor ng iiskor, so inaabangan ko kung ano gagawin niya at nung taumalon siya, talagang iniwan ko na si KG para humelp kay Pringle,” Rosario said on deflecting Pringle’s pass.
That proved to be the saving grace on an off night for Rosario, who finished with just six points on 2-of-10 shooting – missing all his three treys, although he added eight boards, three assists, and one steal in 31 minutes.
