IT didn’t take long for Don Trollano to finally win a PBA championship again after coming on board for San Miguel Beer.
Just two months to be exact.
Eight years after his first title as a pro, the 32-year-old guard experienced the sweet scent of victory one more time after the Beermen clinched the Commissioner’s Cup crown at the expense of the Magnolia Hotshots, four games to two.
Trollano disclosed he was under the weather during the 104-102 title-clinching win, but was still good enough for 10 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of play.
“Masama ang pakiramamdam ko the last three days. Pero worth it pa rin. Sobrang saya, nakapag-champion ulit,” said the San Miguel wingman.
Before this, his first and only championship came while he was still a rookie with Rain or Shine during the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
He was in the finals of the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup for TNT but lost in six games against San Miguel.
But he knew right away a championship was within grasp the moment he landed with the Beermen on Dec. 11 following a three-team trade involving Northport, NLEX, and San Miguel.
“Nung na-trade ako sa San Miguel, alam kong malaki ang tsansa na makapanalo ng championship dito,” said Trollano.
While Game 6 appeared not going in favor of San Miguel the majority of the way, Trollano felt the win was on the bag with 1:27 to go when the Beermen finally wrested the lead for the very first time, 100-99.
“Nung naka-shoot ng 3 si coach Chris (Ross), alam ko mag-champion na kami,” he said.
It was the 29th PBA crown for San Miguel and just the second for Trollano.
But he expects to win a couple of more the way he did the first time he arrived at San Miguel.
