Talk 'N Text negotiating to get KIA's No. 2 draft pick in three-team PBA trade involving Kevin Alas

    Jul 16, 2015

DON'T look now, but Talk 'N Text may end up owning the top two picks overall in the coming PBA Rookie Draft.

The Manny V. Pangilinan group is moving heaven and earth to get hold not just two but the top three picks in the August 23 draft, which could mean landing Moala Tautuaa, Troy Rosario and possibly Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.

Sources told that at the moment, Talk 'N Text, which already owns the top pick overall from a previous trade with Blackwater, is set to get the No. 2 overall pick from KIA Carnival (soon-to-be Mahendra Enforcers) in a three-team deal that will also involve sister team NLEX.

Under the working terms of the deal, the Tropang Texters will get the No. 2 pick overall from KIA in exchange for Alas, the No. 2 pick overall in the last draft who will then be shipped by the Carnival to NLEX for sweet-shooting forward Aldrech Ramos and a still-to-be-agreed player.

KIA, sources said, is eyeing veteran guard and former Ffinals MVP Jonas Villanueva to be included in the package in a deal that had been going back and forth since last month.

Once completed, the Talk 'N Texters could end up with a brand-new frontline to be manned by Fil-Tongan Tautuaa and Rosario, the vastly improved forward out of National University who made quite an impression during the Gilas cadets' campaign in the last Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

    But that's not all.

Sources said Meralco, another MVP team, is also working to get the No. 3 pick owned by Rain or Shine in the hope of being in position if ever Parks - currently seeing action in the NBA Summer League - decides to join the PBA Draft.

Any such trades, however, will be dependent on the approval of Rain or Shine, which is looking to shore up its frontline and should be on the lookout for a dependable big man in the August 23 proceedings.

Meralco, insiders said, is even willing to give up the fourth and seventh picks in the first round of the draft to Rain or Shine, just so it can move up to No. 3 and be in a position to snare Parks in the event he declares for the PBA draft.

Parks is the godson of Meralco coach Norman Black.

The deals, however, are still on hold as the concerned teams are still keeping an eye on the Summer League stint of Parks, who will change the draft dynamics if he makes himself available.

Still, sources insisted most of the pieces in the deal are in place and it's only a matter of tying up loose ends.
