TOPEX Robinson said he is focusing on getting the team prepared for a possible PBA season following his surprise appointment as interim head coach of Phoenix Super LPG.

The Phoenix associate coach was elevated to the position after Louie Alas was fired by management on Friday near the end of a 15-day suspension for violating health protocols during the Fuel Masters’ return to training.

Robinson declined to comment on Alas’ firing, preferring to focus instead on "what's infront of me and the team right now."

“I came in sobrang bilis. What’s in front right now is there might be a possibility of a league so focusing on that is the main thing because it’s going to happen so quick after I think nine months since we haven’t really played,” said Robinson on Friday night.

“’Yun ‘yung what’s in front of us. How we are going to get ourselves ready to compete if ever there’s going to be a tournament which might happen in a month based on what the PBA has been saying,” said Robinson.

As associate coach, Robinson has been part of Phoenix' traning under strict health standards. The concurrent Lyceum coach said he plans to continue what Alas had programmed for the team during the training.

“Since we are working on individual workouts, there’s hardly really any team concept that we are doing. Nothing has really changed because nung pandemic, nung nag-start ng individual work, coach Louie organized a group that can work together. Everything was planned out in advance. Wala namang naging changes doon because everything is aligned with the direction na gusto niya,” said Robinson.

Despite Alas’ removal, Robinson said he will forever be grateful to the former Phoenix coach, who has been by his side since their days as assistant coaches at Alaska.

“We all know that we have been together for a long time. That’s really something big for me. ‘Yung journey ko sa coaching, he played a big part of it. He's still going to be one of the mentors that I have. ‘Yun ang mas importante sa akin,” said Robinson.

Phoenix Super LPG will resume training on Monday after taking the weekend off.
