TODD Purves said winning two straight games doesn’t mean anything especially if San Miguel Beer fails to earn one of the Top Four spots in the PBA Governors Cup playoffs.
Purves said he’s been preaching consistency especially before the Beermen face dangerous Barako Bull in the first road game of the PBA Governors Cup’s Wednesday at the Alonte Sports Center in Binan, Laguna.
Game time is at 5:45 p.m.
“We have to keep playing our best basketball,” said Purves, whose team notched its second straight win following its 92-90 victory over San Mig Super Coffee. “But we understand we have a very long way to go.”
Import Reggie Williams turned from goat to hero on Sunday, redeeming himself after missing two crucial free throws by pulling off a crucial steal off San Mig's Marqus Blakely to preserve the Beermen’s victory.
Purves said he does understand that Williams’ missed free throws in the end had a lot to do with the long minutes he’s getting as an import.
“He’s really pushing himself minutes-wise, and I discussed with him that he needs a break. He missed a couple of free throws in the endgame because of fatigue,” sad Purves.
The Beermen though will be up against the Energy, who are raring to get back on the winning track after losing their last two games.
Barako Bull opened the tournament under new coach Siot Tanquingcen with a 95-94 win over Rain or Shine, before dropping its last two matches against San Mig Super Coffee (66-76) and Airr21, 86-101.
Import Eric Wise has been doing it all for Barako Bull, averaging 27.3 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in his first three games in the league.
But he will need the scoring support from veterans like JC Intal, Mick Pennisi, and Willy Wilson.
