TWO knockout quarterfinal matches are set on Wednesday with TNT taking on San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra squaring off once again with Magnolia in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Katropa and Beermen face off at 4:30 p.m., while the Gin Kings and Hotshots clash at 7 o’clock.
The KaTropa forced a Game Three after beating the Beermen, 93-88, with Troy Rosario delivering a crucial triple late in the match.
TNT coach Bong Ravena said he hopes the KaTropa will have the same intensity in the knockout match.
“We have to stop (June Mar) Fajardo and we have to stop their shooters,” said Ravena. “We just played hard compared to our last game. Hopefully, ‘yung intensity at energy, pareho pa rin or more.”
In contrast to the TNT win, the Hotshots routed the Gin Kings, 106-77, to also force a rubber match for a semifinal berth.
”Game Three is parang Game Seven ’yan,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero. “It's a short series, and the good thing is it's a do-or-die. So, at least may chance kami doon. Kahit papaano, 1-1. Prepare lang kami ng maayos siguro and, hopefully mapunta sa amin 'yung breaks ng Game Three.”
The winner of the TNT-San Miguel series will take on top-seed Phoenix Pulse, while the winner of the Ginebra-Magnolia tiff will battle second-ranked Rain or Shine in the best-of-seven semifinals.
