TNT has let go of big man Carl Bryan Cruz and Mike Tolomia, while Northport released Prince Caperal and MJ Ayaay in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.
Team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirmed the Tropang Giga no longer offered Cruz and Tolomia new contracts as the team already had a full 15-man lineup even if center Poy Erram is on the injured/reserved list while recovering from multiple knee injuries.
LIST: Blackwater players, draft picks that ended up at MVP camp
Cruz, a former Gilas player and part of the 2016 special draft, was acquired by TNT in a 2021 trade with Blackwater, eventually winning a championship with the franchise during the 2023 Governors’ Cup.
The power forward out of Far Eastern University has since hooked up with the Manila Stars in the coming new season of the MPBL.
Tolomia, 31, meanwhile was signed by TNT to a one-conference deal in the Commissioner’s Cup to boost a then depleted backcourt by the team.
It’s basically the same story for both Caperal and Ayaay at Northport.
Amores relegated to reserve list
“Wala na talagang slots sa team,” said Batang Pier coach Bonnie Tan.
Northport also has a complete 15-man roster, with rookie John Amores being relegated to the reserve list to pave way for the entry for the arrival of fellow freshman Zav Lucero.
Caperal, the 2020 Most Improved Player, was acquired by the Batang Pier along with Arvin Tolentino and a 2022 first-round pick from Barangay Ginebra for the rights on big man Jamie Malonzo.
Ayaay was similarly picked by Northport from Ginebra for a 2023 second-round selection.
