ROGER Pogoy is going nowhere.
TNT management was swift to make a move and gave the veteran guard a well-deserved contract extension after emerging as the most consistent Tropang 5G in the just concluded PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Pogoy, 34, is set to sign a new three-year deal with the telecommunication franchise, where he has spent his entire pro career since being picked as part of the Gilas Pilipinas special draft in 2016.
COLUMN: Has free agent Roger Pogoy played his last game with TNT?
“Pirma na lang ang kulang,” team manager Jojo Lastimosa told SPIN.ph.
Pogoy, who was a prime candidate as Finals MVP had TNT won the championship against Barangay Ginebra in Game 7, said he’s grateful for the continued trust being given him by TNT management.
“Very thankful sa management and siyempre kay Lord for all the blessings,” he said.
“Pag balik na after ng bakasyon,” added Pogoy, when asked about the formal contract signing.
Pogoy emerged as the top local scorer for TNT during the course of the finals, averaging 16.57 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, while shooting 44 percent from the field and 82 percent from the foul line.
He also had the daunting task of taking Best Import Justin Brownlee of Ginebra on defense.
The two-way guard out of Far Eastern University is set to become an unrestricted free agent once his old contract expires this August.
But Lastimosa said no way will Pogoy be suiting up for another team than TNT.
"He's a TNT lifer just like Jayson (Castro). Very rare these days," stressed one of the PBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time.
